Pumori Journeys launches five-night Himalayan stays with the opening of Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa

The new eight-dome resort at 3,100 metres combines hiking, horseback riding, Himalayan food and Ayurveda, with a signature private helicopter excursion to Everest Base Camp

Nepal-based EMC (Experiential Travel Company) Pumori Journeys is launching new five-night stays in Nepal’s Solukhumbu region to coincide with the opening of Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa this November.

Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa sits at 3,100 metres above Phaplu, overlooking the Everest mountain range. The resort has eight geodesic dome villas, furnished using Nepali stone, clay, metal, wood and textiles, with private balconies, outdoor hot tubs, fireplaces and personal butler service.

The five-night stay combines time at the resort with a programme of guided half-day adventures in the surrounding mountains. There are three levels of hiking, from a 30-minute forest walk past meditation caves to a two-hour ascent through rhododendron forest to Ratgane viewpoint at 3,300 metres. Guests can make the return journey from Ratgane on horseback.

Other activities include horse riding through pine forest, birdwatching, visits to Phaplu village and a local Sherpa monastery, and time with nearby farming communities. Depending on the season guests may join activities including harvesting, cow milking and cheese making.

“My vision for Kunda is to open a remote part of Nepal to exceptional hospitality and give people time to experience the Himalayas with comfort and humility,” said Sugam Acharya, founder of Pumori Journeys and Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa. “Nature, community and culture guided how we built it. What we learned became Isolated Remote Luxury, an approach rooted in respect for the mountains and the people who call them home.”

A 15-minute flight to Everest Base Camp

The signature excursion is a private helicopter flight from Kunda Resort to Everest Base Camp.

Operated by Pumori Journeys, the flight takes approximately 15 minutes each way and carries two guests with a private guide. The helicopter lands at Everest Base Camp at 5,364 metres, where guests have time for a light picnic at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall before returning to the resort.

The excursion costs USD 6,000–7,000 and must be booked in advance. Flights are dependent on weather, permits, guest fitness and acclimatisation.

Eight luxury domes in the Solukhumbu mountains

Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa describes its approach as Isolated Remote Luxury, combining its remote location with the comforts of a small luxury hotel.

Each of the eight dome villas accommodates up to two guests and has its own butler. Nepali craftsmanship runs throughout the property, while food is based around seasonal and organic produce sourced from farms within 60 kilometres of the resort.

Guests can also enjoy the resort’s Tathāstu Himalayan Wellness programme. It starts with a private consultation with Kunda’s resident Ayurvedic doctor, including Nadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis) and a Vedic birth-chart reading. The resulting programme informs the guest’s activities, meals, treatments, yoga and meditation during the stay.

How to get there?

Pumori Journeys manages the journey from arrival in Kathmandu, including accommodation, private sightseeing, transfers and travel to Kunda.

  • The resort can be reached by a nine-to-ten-hour private drive from Kathmandu,

  • a 30-minute flight to Phaplu followed by a 30-minute drive,

  • or a 45-minute private helicopter flight directly to Kunda.

Rates and booking

  • The Pinetree Package costs USD 1,280 per dome, per night, based on a maximum occupancy of two. It includes accommodation, personal butler service, three meals a day, one daily outdoor experience, and taxes.

  • The Tathāstu Himalayan Wellness extension costs an additional USD 220 per person, per night.

  • The signature Everest Base Camp private helicopter excursion costs USD 6,000–7,000 per excursion.

  • Kunda Himalayan Resort & Spa opens in November 2026.

  • Kunda operates from 25 March to 17 May and 5 October to 20 January and welcomes guests aged 15 and over.

Experience Extension: Pikey Peak Trek

Guests looking to extend their time in Solukhumbu can add a four-day guided trek from Kunda to Pikey Peak, combining village trails, a monastery stay and simple mountain lodges.

Highlights include:

  • Thupten Chholing Monastery: an overnight stay at the Buddhist monastery, with the opportunity to attend prayers and spend time with the monastic community.

  • Pikey Peak at sunrise: a pre-dawn climb to the 4,065-metre summit for views towards Everest and the surrounding Himalayan ranges, weather permitting.

  • Four days on foot: the route leaves Kunda for the monastery before crossing the hills towards Pikey Peak, descending through Jhapre to Dhap and returning to Kathmandu by private jeep.

  • Supported trekking: porters carry the main luggage, allowing guests to walk with a daypack.
